Interested in designing and sewing your own prom clothes this year? Professional fashion designer SamiraJB will lead a small group of students through the process of creating prom formal from scratch. Suits, gowns, dresses—whatever you want to wear, she’ll help you make your vision a reality.
What do you get?
You’ll be guided through the steps of drawing designs, picking fabric, cutting, pinning and using a sewing machine. You’ll get a $100 stipend to spend on fabric and materials. We will provide sewing machines and snacks. You’ll work to create clothes to wear to prom this year, and you’ll also have the chance to participate in a fashion show at Bartram’s Garden in June.
What does it cost?
This class is free, but space is limited. You must fill out an application and commit to attending weekly classes on Wednesdays from 4pm to 6pm, March through May. Priority will be given to students who live in Southwest Philadelphia nearest to Bartram’s Garden. No experience necessary, but definitely come prepared to work hard towards the goal of completing your clothes in time for prom!
How do you apply?
If you are interested, you and a legal guardian must attend an information session in the Bartram’s Garden Coach House Saturday, March 15th from 2pm to 3pm.
If you have questions ahead of this session, you can contact Ms. Samira at 215-381-7732 or Mr. Zach at Bartram’s Garden at 215-729-5281 x112/
