We are excited to work and learn with you this season. Please fill out the form below to share more about yourself, your personal goals, and your vision for your community. Your answers will help make this program stronger and more accessible to students and help your educators get a better sense of what you hope to achieve this season. All your responses will be kept confidential, and your personal information will not be shared.

Plants & Farming

This section asks about your existing knowledge of plants and farming. You'll answer the same questions at the end of the program, so don't worry if you feel like you don't know everything yet--you will!

Many foods are parts of plants--for instance, a potato is a root. Can you give an example of a food that is a plant's flower?*

Can you give an example of a food that is a plant's fruit or seeds?*

Can you give an example of a food that is a plant's bud?*

Can you give an example of a food that is a plant's leaf?*

Can you give an example of a food that is a plant's stem?*

Name three plant families and one or two examples of vegetables in those families.**

For example, plant family mallow and vegetable okra.

What is the difference between direct seeding and transplanting?*

Why do farmers save seeds each season? Give as many reasons as you can think of.*

Name two edible wild plants and how you could use them.*

What does it mean to you when you see the word "organic" used to describe food?*

What does it mean to you when you see the word "conventional" used to describe food?*

Consider the statement and then answer the question. STATEMENT: "Feed the soil, soil feeds the plant, and plants feed you." QUESTION: How do we feed the soil?*

Imagine you were given a small garden plot: what are the steps you would have to go through to prepare it, plant it, and harvest it so that you could eat your own produce?*

Culture and Food

This section asks about your existing knowledge of culture and food. You'll answer the same questions at the end of the program, so don't worry if you feel like you don't know everything yet--you will!

Spiritual practices have been important for the wellness and survival of people and communities in the African and African American Diasporas. What is a spiritual practice you now use in your own life to maintain and balance your wellness?*
