Tuesday Free Boating (2019) – CANCELLED
***Due to surprise heavy rains today unfortunately Tuesday Free Boating has been cancelled for this evening. Rain causes sewer outfall overflows in the lower Schuylkill, elevating pollution levels making it unsafe for kayaking.***
This summer, we’re opening up our Tuesday evening boating for few weeks so folks can enjoy free sunset boating in the cooler evening time!
Kayak or rowboat on this quiet stretch of the Schuylkill River. No registration or boating experience necessary! All ages are welcome, minors must be accompanied by an adult. We provide the boats, life jackets and basic instruction. There are trained rowers available if you would prefer to not row or paddle yourself. Kayak excursions limited to 30 minutes, rowboat excursions limited to 45 minutes. The last boat goes out at 8pm.
We cancel in the event of rain, lightning, outfall overflows (occur for 24 hours after a heavy rain) and high wind. Check this site or our Facebook page day-of for cancellation notices.
Free Boating is at our Community Boathouse, which is located on the northern tip of Bartram’s Garden on the river. Walk past the free Parking area onto the Meadow trail, which leads downhill to the Boathouse (click here for a map).
