SWWAG Workshop: Biochar and Compost Tea

November 8 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Sankofa Community Farm at Bartram’s Garden
5400 Lindbergh Blvd
Philadelphia, PA 19143

Learn about the making and use of biochar and compost tea to improve garden and orchard soils.

Biochar is a charcoal-like soil enhancer made by burning organic material. Compost tea is a living liquid soil enhancer made by ‘brewing’ compost.  In this workshop, we’ll go over the history, usage, properties, and how they improve the life of garden and orchard soils. We’ll have live demonstrations of making biochar, brewing compost tea, and applying them directly to fruit trees in the Sankofa Orchard.

Formalized in 2018, SWWAG represents a coalition of local farmers and growers, led collaboratively by the Urban Tree Connectionthe Philadelphia Orchard ProjectSankofa Community Farm at Bartram’s Garden, and the Garden at CHOP Karabots.
