Seed Saving Workshop & Volunteer Seed Cleaning Day

Keeping seeds connects us to our past and to our collective future. When we keep our seeds, we hold onto our freedom. We will begin the day with telling the stories embodied in our ancestors’ seeds, and talking about the current political context that makes seed keeping so essential. We’ll explore important concepts for saving seeds, such as plant relationships and reproduction; isolation distance and number of plants needed to prevent inbreeding. We’ll also have hands-on time for cleaning wet seeds, and the afternoon workday will provide more hands-on time with dry seeds.
10 am to 12 pm: presentation and workshop
12 pm to 1 pm: lunch and seed swap
1 pm to 4 pm: volunteer seed cleaning project
Suggested donation $7.
This event is co-hosted by Bartram’s Garden and the Bartram’s Farm & Community Resource Center. The snow date will be January 31.
