WEATHER UPDATE—EVENT CANCELLED

The Seed cleaning event planned for Saturday, January 24 has been cancelled due to forecasted weather conditions.

Join Us for Seed Cleaning at Bartram’s Garden!

Help our gardeners prepare for next spring by cleaning last season’s seed harvest. You’ll learn traditional techniques like hand-threshing and winnowing to separate seeds from chaff, making them ready for storage and sowing. Volunteers will also pack seeds into envelopes for sale in the Welcome Center.

Seed cleaning is a relaxing, family-friendly activity—usually done seated at a table, chatting with neighbors. Registered volunteers will meet at the Coach House promptly at 9:30 AM. Come for the whole day or just an hour or two. Staff will provide instructions, safety protocols, tools and dust masks. Stop by and enjoy this contemplative, hands-on way to support the garden!

PLEASE NOTE: Capacity is limited to 15 participants, so pre-registration is required using link below. Each adult must register individually in order to complete the required waivers—and if you’re bringing children, you’ll need to fill out a waiver for each child as well.

If registration is full and you’d like to still participate, please contact Kimani Keaton at to be added to our waitlist. Parents/guardians must complete registration for individuals 18 and under.

Please also email Kimani immediately if you plan on cancelling your attendance, so that we may make room for those on our waitlist.

Thank you!

Health reminders: We are in accordance with Pennsylvania and the City of Philadelphia’s current COVID-19 response levels. Please follow the link to stay up-to-date on our city’s protocols. If you are sick or experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please do not volunteer.
