Who hangs out in Bartram’s Garden after the sun goes down? We’ll be checking out nighttime insects and animals in the garden with naturalist Ken Frank (author of Ecology of Center City Philadelphia) and Bartram’s Garden gardener Mandy Katz.
Join us in the wooded Lower Garden near the Schuylkill River, where we’ll be luring an incredible array of nocturnal insects with black lights, overripe bananas, and molasses. This is a rare opportunity to get an up-close look at some of the ethereal animals that spend the days hidden in plain sight in Philly’s urban wilderness. Open to seasoned entomologists and curious newcomers alike, we’ll work together to observe, identify, and photograph moths and other insects drawn to light and sugar traps in the Garden.
