Make + Take: Natural Dyes T-Shirt Workshop (2018)

In this workshop you’ll have the opportunity to learn about a variety of seasonal natural dye plants and techniques.  You’ll learn about the process of extracting the dye from the plant, the difference between a dye and a stain, as well as the difference in dyeing plant fibers and animal fibers. The class will also touch on techniques to resist dye opening the door to pattern making and design Natural dyeing is a great way to customize your fiber projects and textiles. At the end of the workshop you’ll take home your own hand-dyed t-shirt and handkerchiefs!

Photographer + fiber artist, Emily Carris has a BA in Education and Photography from Eugene Lang College in New York. She holds a Master’s degree in photography from UCA in Kent, England. She has exhibited internationally and has worked as photography teacher and museum educator at the International Center of Photography in New York. Emily is the director of The Art Dept and lives in Philadelphia.
