Guided Art Walk with Oluwafemi
Stretch your legs and see the Bartram’s Mile Trail from a new perspective in this guided walk with artist Oluwafemi, who recently created new interpretive installations showcasing the many stories held by in this landscape. You’ll hear directly from the artist about how the pieces were developed, including how the distinct locations inspired each design.
The walk will begin on the North Mile, near the future site of the Schuylkill Crossing swing bridge and follow the Bartram’s Mile Trail south to the Sankofa Community Farm at Bartram’s Garden. The route is just under a mile, not including the distance to the starting location or from the endpoint, and includes both flat and hilly areas on a paved recreational trail. Participants should dress comfortably for walking and standing outdoors, including sun and insect protection, and bring a refillable water bottle.
About the Artist:
Inspired by African culture, mathematics, hip-hop culture, and nature, Oluwafemi cultivates a musical and visual artistic practice he calls Rhythmism, which is the study and use of patterns in art. In addition to recent artist residencies at Painted Bride, Shofuso, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, his artistic practices have included the design of art installations used at music festivals, visual direction and asset creation for brands, murals made in conjunction with Mural Arts Philadelphia, animated art projections and short films, and music-making for documentaries, album production, and the Black Star Film Festival Recap. Femi is also a sought-after DJ—you might recognize him from the annual Twilight in the Garden gala as well as from numerous events in partnership with Worldtown and Vinyl Tap 215. In each of these projects, the primary objective has been to connect in a meaningful way with community and public spaces.
