Archives Month Philly Event: Tour of the John Bowman Bartram Special Collections Library and Exhibit

October 25, 2014 @ 6:00 am - 9:00 am

October is American Archives Month! Bartram’s Garden is a proud partner of Archives Month Philly, an annual celebration of archives, special collections libraries, and cultural institutions. Our curator Joel Fry will offer a special tour of the Bartram’s Garden library and archives, which includes rare books and manuscripts related to the history of botany and its practice in the Philadelphia area. Two exciting recent additions to our collection are a mid-19th century herbarium of plants collected locally by Emma Thomas of Whitby Hall, and a letter from Benjamin Franklin, dated London, 1769, with an undated seed list of 102 species by John Bartram on the rear. The letter was donated by the McNeil Americana Collection and the Barra Foundation.

Tours will take place at 11 am and 1 pm. Tours are limited to 12 people and reservations are required. RSVP to .
