Afrofuture Films After Dark: Attack the Block!

October 10, 2019 @ 2:30 pm - 7:00 pm

MythMedia Studios is back at Bartram’s Garden with Attack the Block!, Thursday, October 10 from 6:30 – 11p. Come explore Afrofuture Films After Dark—an immersive adult cinema experience engaging audiences in interactive, extra-sensory programming that brings speculative stories to life beyond the screen.

Enjoy a spirited happy hour with a live DJ set with Lil Dave (Illvibe Collective, Eaves Drop Radio) and a complimentary thematic cocktail. Learn the science behind otherworldly fiction in a pre-screening talk with independent scholar Ras Ben hosted by Dr. Li Sumpter of MythMedia Studios. Stick around after the film to hang in the MythMedia Movie Lounge featuring telescopic stargazing with Lauren McBride of Astro By Lauren and Galaxy Grillz astrology podcast.  Test your inner nerd with sci-fi movie trivia for cool prizes and MythMedia giveaways. Plus! We’ll have FREE popcorn and lemonade, artisan vendors and astrology readings.

Attack the Block! (2011) is an afrofuture classic from across the pond that chronicles a night in the lives of a young posse from South London who save their block from an alien invasion. The film stars a young John Boyega (Star Wars, Pacific Rim) and is directed by Joe Cornish.

Large portions of our 50+ acre botanical garden can be explored via wheelchair, though some of our paths should be used at your own discretion. This event will take place in the Eastwick Pavilion, a space that is accessible via wheelchair. However, there are no ADA accessible bathrooms located within the pavilion. The nearest wheelchair accessible bathrooms are in a different section of the garden, a few hundred yards away. If you have questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out ahead of the event

Admission is FREE.
