KEEPERS OF THE CULTURE: Session 1
Keepers of the Culture (KOTC) will be offering a 3-part series of workshops where participants will learn how to craft and tell stories based on personal memories, family history and community traditions. While identifying the skills, tools and techniques used by professional storytellers, participants will explore the connection between folklore and life experiences while learning the basics of creative writing, story crafting, and stage performance techniques used by professional storytellers. Free and open to all!
Workshop participants will have the opportunity to present their stories during the John Bartram Jawn concert on October 16, 2016.
September 28, 6:30-8 pm: Turning Personal Memories into Memorable Stories
In the first segment, participants will utilize their personal memories and recollections to identify hidden stories.
October 2, 2-3:30 pm: From Family History to Modern Folklore
In the second workshop segment, participants will uncover the stories hidden in family histories and learn the process of transforming those stories into modern day folklore.
October 9, 2-3:30 pm: Crafting Stories about Community Traditions
In the third workshop segment, participants will utilize community traditions as the motif for crating stories to highlight community. Utilizing basic story structure, participants will create stories to reflect the community’s unique personality.
