Commemorative Gifts

Honoring a loved one or marking a milestone at Bartram’s Garden

We offer several ways to commemorate special people or events while strengthening this beloved public space. Your commemorative gift to Bartram’s Garden is a wonderful way to remember or celebrate a loved one or to mark a special occasion like a wedding, anniversary, birth, graduation, retirement, or more.

Interested in making a commemorative gift? See the options below, or contact development@bartramsgarden.org for more information.

What about plants and trees? Bartram’s Garden does not offer plants or trees within the park as commemorative gifts. If you are interested in planting elsewhere, please visit our nursery to find a plant or tree to bring home.

Inscribed Bricks

Custom commemorative bricks are available to be installed in our historic barnyard, a wonderful year-round gathering space.

Each brick can hold up to 3 lines of text, with up to 15 characters per line (including spaces, punctuation, and special characters). Multiple bricks can be ordered together for a longer message.

Bricks take roughly 2–3 months to produce and install. Bricks cannot be installed in winter.

Bricks cost $200 each, including installation. To begin your custom brick order, please contact development@bartramsgarden.org.

Custom Benches

A new custom commemorative bench is a beautiful way to mark a milestone or honor a loved one, providing a special destination for your future visits while helping others enjoy these 50 acres.

Benches can be installed in all areas of the Garden. Our staff will work with you to identify an appropriate location based on both your preferences and the natural conditions of the site.

The style of your bench will vary depending on location: benches installed within the Botanic Garden have a cast metal frame, including backrests and armrests; benches installed elsewhere in the Garden are crafted of reclaimed lumber from trees grown on-site. All benches include a custom inscription or plaque.

Benches take roughly 2–3 months to produce and install. Benches cannot be installed in winter.

Benches cost $5,000 each, including installation and custom inscription or plaque. To begin your custom bench, please contact development@bartramsgarden.org.

Naming Gifts

A limited number of permanent naming opportunities are available at Bartram’s Garden, such as the following:

  • New buildings or parts of new buildings, such as wings, where the identification focuses on the external feature;
  • Parts of new buildings, such as laboratories or classrooms, where the identification deals with an internal feature;
  • Other physical facilities as recommended for naming; and
  • Endowments to provide ongoing support for specific staff positions, convened entities, or scholarships.

Per the Garden’s Naming Policy, the Board and the Executive Director reserve the right to determine minimum contributions towards each of these opportunities to qualify for naming, based on the following factors: prominence or visibility of the physical space or endowed capacity; function of the physical space or endowed capacity;  and, if needed, costs for sustainability (i.e., required equipment, maintenance, etc.). These minimum contributions may vary by project but will generally adhere to the following ranges:

  • New buildings or parts of new buildings, such as wings, where the identification focuses on the external feature: $1,000,000+ or 50% or more of the cost of the facility’s construction, whichever is greater
  • Parts of new buildings, such as laboratories or classrooms, where the identification deals with an internal feature: $250,000–$1,000,000
  • Other physical facilities as recommended for naming: $250,000+
  • Endowments to provide ongoing support:
    • Staff position: 100% of the role’s projected salary and benefits for a minimum 10-year commitment
    • Convened entities or scholarships: $100,000+

Please note that certain areas of Bartram’s Garden, including but not limited to the National Historic Landmark structures and the Sankofa Community Farm, are ineligible for naming.
