Plan Your Visit
Bartram’s Garden has inspired people to see with all their senses for over 5,000 years. Our grounds are free and open to the public year-round except on city-observed holidays
For a more in-depth experience, Bartram’s Garden offers guided tours of both the historic garden as well as the Bartram family home.
The Green Room provides a menu of options for visitors to dig in and check in about their experience. Take a guided tour or dig into a hands-on activity based on monthly themes in science and nature.
The Bartram Nursery offers hard-to-find plants discovered by the Bartram’s or well-suited to our region. Our homegrown plants will be available for purchase in the Garden Shop during our hours of operation. You can click here to check out our Nursery Catalog selection, or call 215-729-5281 for availability. Hard copies of this catalog are also available for purchase in the Garden Shop.
August 2013 Update: Tidal Wetlands Restoration
Big changes are happening to our tidal wetlands this summer! Located on the southern end of Bartram’s Garden, the wetlands are undergoing a major restoration with the help of the Philadelphia International Airport.
This project will restore proper water flow to a unique tidal wetland, and will be monitored for the next five years for habitat value and water quality. New plantings will provide high quality habitat for birds, including green heron, kingfisher, and redwing blackbirds. Major disturbances are underway and will continue through the fall, with new plantings in October and November. The new design will include a viewing area for visitors.
Visitors may be surprised by the amount of work that has already been accomplished in just a short time. We had similar work performed on the Bartram Meadow just a year ago, and it has already been integrated into the landscape. We expect that the wetlands will regrow – and be functional and more beautiful than ever – by the spring.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause to our vistiors. Thank you for your patience.
