The John Bartram Association was founded

in 1893 by John Bartram descendants to preserve America’s oldest living botanical garden.  Today, the John Bartram Association administers Bartram’s Garden in cooperation with the Fairmount Park Commission.

THE JOHN BARTRAM ASSOCIATION HAS:
  • rescued the Bartram House and farm buildings from disrepair.
  • turned an adjacent industrial tract into a wildflower meadow.
  • enriched the botanical garden with native plant species from the Bartram period.
  • restored Bartram’s 18th century fish pond.
  • created the first interpretive wetland on the Schuyllkill River.
  • introduced 10,000 school children annually to the joys of nature through its school programs.
  • hosted horticulture and history lectures and workshops for adults.
  • acted as an environmental advocate for its inner ctiy industrialized community.

Please join the effort.

Membership is open to anyone interested in preserving this unique, irreplaceable botanical treasure and enhancing its contemporary mission of education and outreach.
