FRANKLINIA CENSUS

Bartram's Garden launched a Franklinia Census in 1998 as part of the festivities to commemorate John Bartram's 300th birthday in May 1999. Franklinia fans all over the world submitted surveys by mail, fax, telephone and over the Internet.

Franklinias have been extinct in the wild since the early 1800s. All Franklinias growing today are descendants of those propagated by the Bartrams at their Philadelphia garden.

Horticulturists and historians have long wondered how widespread the Franklinia population had become and how far the Bartram legacy had stretched across the nation and around the globe. Thanks to the Franklinia Census, now we know!
