VISITING BARTRAM’S GARDEN

The grounds at Bartram’s Garden are free and open to the public except during City-observed holidays.

For a more in-depth experience, Bartram’s Garden offers visitors guided tours of both the historic garden as well as the National Historic Landmark Bartram family home for a fee.  General Admission tours are available during the following times, or you can schedule your own Group Tour if you have 10 or more people:

GENERAL ADMISSION TOURS

Fridays,  Saturdays, and Sundays now through October 31, 2010.  Check back again soon for 2011 General Admission season dates.

Garden History Tour:  10:30 am, 12:30 pm, 2:30 pm
Tour the historic garden and discover the plants that the Bartrams collected and brought into cultivation in the 18th century.  There is something new to experience each season with blooms and migratory birds.  In early spring, the ephemerals and heirloom bulbs emerge. By mid-May, you can see a show of cascading white flowers from the 200 year old Yellowwood tree.  In summer, our kitchen garden boasts  a harvest of specialty vegetables, and the rare Franklinia begins to bloom in August and September.  The leaves burst into color in the Fall before the lovely winter landscape offers an unbroken view of the Schuylkill River.

House and Heritage Tour: 11:30 am, 1:30 pm, 3:30 pm
Explore the 18th-century home built by John Bartram and discover the Bartram family legacy, as well as the many other families that have preserved this historic treasure.  Get an insiders look of the house John Bartram handcrafted, view a collection of William Bartram’s drawings, and see where William wrote his book Travels.

Admission is $10 per adult per tour; $8 seniors (62 +), members, and students; and free for children 12 and under; or free with a Bartram Program Pass.

Tours begin at the Bartram’s Garden Museum Shop, which is open from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The Shop will close for the 2010 season on October 31.
